The Himachal Pradesh State Information Commission was constituted by the State Government on 4th February, 2006 in exercise of powers conferred by sub section (1) of section 15 of the Right to Information Act, 2005. The Commission started functioning with effect from 1st March, 2006 with headquarters at Shimla, on the assumption of the office of State Chief Information Commissioner, Himachal Pradesh by Shri P.S. Rana. Now, after his retirement on 28th February, 2011, Sh. Bhim Sen has assumed the office of the Chief Information Commissioner on 25th March, 2011.

It is mandatory for all Government organisations to publish RTI related information under the clause (b) of sub-section (1) of Section 4 of the RTI Act 2005, classified under 17 sub-heads. Most of the organisations in Himachal Pradesh have published this content related to their respective organisations.
